The elections for the Panjab University Campus Students’ Council (PUCSC) will be held on the same day as elections to student bodies in the universities affiliated colleges located in Chandigarh.

Nominations for the PUCSC will be filed on Aug 30 and the final list of candidates will be announced Aug 31. The voting will be for five posts of office bearers of PUCSC and also for departmental representatives.

Panjab University is the alma mater of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. He had even worked here as a professor in the Department of Economics in early 1960s.

However, as has been the practice for the last over 25 years, no elections will be held in nearly 100 colleges affiliated to PU which are located in Punjab.

University and police authorities in Chandigarh have cautioned student bodies that if there is any violence in the run-up to the elections, the election process will be cancelled.

The main contest on the campus and in most colleges is between the PU Students Union (PUSU) and its alliance partners and the Students of Panjab University (SOPU) and its allies.
