London: When 6th December comes Indian Muslims living in India or abroad feel very sad as it reminds them the demolition of the centuries old Babri Masjid in Ayodya on the same day in 1992 by the Hidutva forces.
On the 18th anniversary of the demolition of historical mosque, Council of Indian Muslims—UK (CIM) remembered the painful incident and expressed sadness. “December 6 is the sad day that brings the painful memory of the perpetuation of injustice meted out to Indian Muslims” said CIM chairman Mr Munaf Zeena.
Expressing his displeasure at the Allahabad High Court verdict delivered on 30 Sep. 2010, Mr. Zeena termed it as a reward to the demolishers. “As if the demolition, in full media glare, of a house of worship and letting the perpetrators of the crime and the killers of 3000 Muslims in the ensuing riots go free was not enough, the known participants in these crimes have been rewarded by the Allahabad High Court,” Mr Zeena said.
He appreciated the decisions of Muslim organizations to challenge the Allahabad High Court’s verdict in the Apex Court. “Regardless of court’s injudicious ruling, what one finds reassuring and welcoming is the attitude of the common man who has been proving political and social maturity and refusing to fall prey to the philosophy of hatred of the Sangh Parivar.”
“Babri Mosque was built in 1528 by Baqi Beg Tashqandi, the Governor General of Mughal Emperor Babar to mark the victory of Mughal army over Pathan King Sikandar Lodhi and there is no historical or archaeological evidence to prove either of Babar’s going to Ayodhya or ever the existence of a Hindu temple on Babri Mosque site. With the connivance of the administration the Mosque was closed to Muslims in 1949 and converted into a de facto temple after the statues of Rama and his consort Sita were stealthily put there” Mr. Zeena stated.
