Gandhinagar : The Gujarat High Court Tuesday dismissed a public interest suit challenging the state government’s scheme to give residential plots here to parliament and legislature members at concessional rates.

The court threw out the petition on the ground that there was no public interest involved in the litigation.

Seeking a ban on the scheme, the petition said the land allotted to members of parliament and legislature in various sectors of this capital city should be given to needy people.

Petitioner Maulin Barot alleged that many of the MPs and legislators violated the terms of allotment by selling land at a premium.

The petitioner sought the court’s direction to the government to furnish details of sale or transfer of such plots.

Earlier, the same suit was filed before a bench of Chief Justice S.J. Mukhopadhaya and Justice Anant Dave but was withdrawn for not being in a proper format.
