New Delhi: A temporary post office set up at the venue of the Congress party’s plenary here is doing brisk business, with over 700 stamps “selling like hot cakes” Sunday.
Stamps relating to the pre-independence era, the environment and freedom fighters were attracting buyers, and were “selling like hot cakes”, Jaya Prakash, an assistant at the post office at the venue of the 83rd Congress plenary at Burari, told IANS.
He also said they were happy with the overwhelming response of the Congress members.
“Delhi will be hosting a World Philatelic Exhibition in February and this is a sort of a curtain raiser for us,” he said.
Shibu Sebastain, a Congress leader from Calicut, Kerala, said: “I bought 10 stamps as souvenirs for my friends back home.”
India Post officials said their mail service was also being used by many Congress workers.
“Since Saturday, we received at least 10 Speed Post courier packets and 21 ordinary post letters from party members,” said an official.
