In her concluding remarks at the party’s 83rd plenary here, Gandhi said the Congress will hold at least one public meeting in each constituency as part of its “jan jagran abhiyan (public awareness campaign)” to inform people about achievements of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government and expose the BJP’s double-speak on the issue of corruption.

She said every Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) should appoint a monitoring committee to get systematic feedback on the implementation of the government’s flagship programmes.

She said the party’s district and block units should be involved in the exercise and the PCC monitoring committee should submit an assessment report every quarter to the All India Congress Committee (AICC).

She said every PCC must have at least one session of all delegates once a year.

Gandhi said that in states in which the party was in power, the Congress will set up coordination committees to ensure regular and close interaction between the government and party organization.

“Similar committees will be established in opposition-ruled states as well as to bring about greater cohesion between the CLP (Congress Legislature Party) and the party organization,” Gandhi said.

Referring to elections next year in major states like West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam and Kerala, she said the party will succeed, but it should not be complacent.

“There is simply no alternative to unity, hard work and discipline,” she said.
