“The MCD’s building department, along with the police, demolished nine properties in Gandhi Nagar, Madhuban, Laxmi Nagar and Mandawali police station areas,” a statement from the civic body said.

The MCD in recent weeks has put the focus on checking unauthorised constructions after a multi-storeyed building with two illegal floors collapsed Nov 15 in an east Delhi locality, killing as many as 70 migrant labourers from Bihar and West Bengal.

The incident also drew wide criticism of the civic body for its failure to check mushrooming of illegal constructions in the national capital.
