With 498 runs, Arman Jaffer makes history in school cricket

Mumbai: Just 13, Arman Jaffer made a history in school cricket on December 22 when he scored mammoth 498 runs in Harris Shield tournament in Mumbai. Nephew (brother’s son) of India player and Mumbai skipper Wasim Jaffer, Arman took 490 balls and 8 hours to make the record.

He made the history playing for Rizvi Springfield High School (Bandra) against IES Raja Shivaji (Dadar) at Karnataka Sports Association ground, Cross Maidan. He hit 77 boundaries before getting out in the slips.

Arman in fact bettered his teammate Sarfaraz Khan’s record of 439 runs in Harris Shield tournament in 2009. Then 12, Arman calmly watched the spectacle from the pavilion.

After the match, he said he felt great to play such a long innings. “I missed out on 500 but it is destiny. I wanted to play a long innings. It was not easy but I had to be patient to score. However, I enjoyed my batting,” he has been quoted as saying.

His father Kaleem said he is proud of the fact that his son broke the record. He praised his son for determination and temperament.
