New Delhi : Communications Minister Kapil Sibal said Thursday that the ministry is looking forward to allocate more spectrum to telecom operators for offering basic services.
“The real problem in India is that we have the lowest volumes of spectrum available to the public, so we need to increase the volume,” Sibal told reporters on the sidelines of a science and technology event in the capital.
The minister also said that all the issues related to third-generation (3G) video calling would be resolved very soon.
“Security concerns on 3G video calls will be resolved soon,” Sibal said.
According to reports, some companies were asked to provide a compliance report on security aspects of 3G services to the department of telecommunications (DoT).
Recently Reliance Communications and Tata Teleservices had launched their 3G services, while Bharti Airtel said it will introduce the service by the year-end.
3G services offer features such as video-calling, mobile TV, video streaming and applications access at super fast internet connections on a wide variety of both mobile phones and personal computing devices.
