Abuja : Nigeria’s anti-corruption agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has begun the investigation of corruption charges over disgraced FIFA executive Amos Adamu.
Last month, Adamu was suspended by FIFA for three years and fined 100,000 Swiss Francs (105,000 dollars) for breaching the code of ethics of the world football governing body over cash-for-vote allegations in respect of the hosting bid for the 2018 World Cup.
“The investigations are on and we do not know when it will be completed,” EFCC spokesman Femi Babafemi said.
Babafemi said Adamu was also being quizzed about the budget for the 2003 All Africa Games staged by Nigeria with the disgraced officials as chief executive.
Other issues that needed to be cleared up were 1.3 billion naira ($8.4 million) Adamu claims was spent on public relations and sums linked to his wife and son–in-law, Babafemi said.
Adamu, who is also on the executive committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), failed last week in an attemt to get a court to stop the EFCC investigation.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have since replaced Adamu with former NFF president, Ibrahim Galadima, to contest next year’s elections into the executive committee of CAF.
