Bangalore: The Popular Front of India (PFI) has strongly condemned the life imprisonment to noted rights activist Dr. Binayak Sen and urged civil society to continue protest until justice is done to Dr. Sen.
Terming it a dangerous alarm for rights activists who devote their lives for the common people, PFI General Secretary K. M. Shareef said: “In a wider scope such deviations of the judiciary point to the dangers faced by the civil rights activists and organizations in near future.”
“It is pathetic that while politicians and bureaucrats involved in multi-crore scams are roaming freely away from the clutches of law, Dr. Sen ,who dedicated his life for social cause of the poor people, was rewarded with life imprisonment” he added.
Dr. Binayak Sen, an award winning civil rights activist who worked for the public health of the tribals of Chattisgarh, was sentenced to life by Sessions Court of Raipur, Chattisgarh on 24th December 2010.
