Thiruvananthapuram : Now you can watch Kerala government’s education channel live on your laptop as it will go online in the new year.
IT@School ViCTERS (Virtual Classroom Technology on Edusat for Rural Schools) is the only channel in the state to air specific curriculum-based programmes, international programmes on science and technology prepared by Deutsche Welle – the German broadcaster – and BBC, besides classic Indian films.
Starting Saturday, ViCTERS would be available live on www.victers.itschool.gov.in and all programmes telecast on the channel from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. could be viewed.
IT@School and ViCTERS educational channel executive director K. Anvar Sadath said this revolutionary upgradation of the channel would benefit lakhs of students in the state as well as those in Lakshadweep and Middle East region who study the state’s syllabus.
“Ever since the launch of the channel in August 2006, its availability through internet was a dream cherished by Keralites around the globe and the new mode will enable an individual from any part of the world to watch and learn through ViCTERS,” Sadath said.
The new technology enables the viewing of the channel through an internet connection with a minimum data speed of 150 kbps.
Live streaming of the channel through internet will also ensure that the students need not depend on a television or cable/DTH (direct to home) connection to watch ViCTERS.
“Apart from the live viewing of ViCTERS using the new technology, students will also be able to select their specific choice of programmes through facilities like ‘Video on Demand’ which is proposed to be implemented very soon,” Sadath said.
The popularity of the channel has spread and other states have also sought to avail the educational contents, aired through ViCTERS, which could be dubbed into the respective regional languages.
