Morin, quoted by French media on sidelines of an informal NATO Defense Ministers’ meeting in Istanbul, Turkey, said France would send the 80 trainers in cooperation with Germany next Spring.

The trainers will be working in East Afghanistan, the area supervised by France.
France is the fourth largest contributor in the NATO-led ISAF.

With Morin’s announcement, the number of French forces would increase to some 3,850 troops, of them 3,500 deployed in Afghanistan and the rest are in the French airbase in Tajikistan or nearby warships.

Up to 38 French soldiers were killed in Afghanistan since ISAF was deployed in 2001.
