President Zardari condemns Karachi bomb blasts

Islamabad : President Asif Ali Zardari has denounced as “barbaric and heinous” the blasts in Karachi that killed over 20 people and injured many more on Friday, presidential spokesman said.

Two successive blasts in Karachi, occured in two hours, resulted in the death of 25 people and injuries to 100, according to provincial health minister Dr Sagheer Ahmed.

“The killing of innocent citizens while performing religious rites is a barbarous and heinous act and is most reprehensible and should be condemned,” the President said in a message.

The killers and murderers must be brought to justice and given exemplary punishment; they will be, the President said.

The militants and extremists will not be allowed to succeed in their designs, he said. President Zardari also urged the provincial government and the Karachi city district government to provide best possible medical care to those injured. The President also directed the Party cadres to visit the victims’ families and the injured in the hospitals and rendered all possible assistance.

Meanwhile, he urged the people to remain patient and refuse to succumb to provocation as it would mean playing into the hands of militants and fanatics.

The President directed the authorities to immediately pay compensation to the heirs of the victims noting that no monetary compensation can bring back to life those killed or end the sufferings of the bereaved families.
