Hyderabad : Slogans of ‘Jai Telangana’ by a legislator at an official meeting Wednesday irked Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K. Rosaiah, who then walked out in a huff.
The chief minister, who hails from coastal Andhra region, walked out of a meeting which was held to review the development works in Nizamabad district when legislators of main opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) raised slogans of ‘Jai Telangana’.
As soon as Rosaiah entered the meeting hall, TDP legislator P. Srinivas Reddy and others raised the slogan.
Reacting angrily, the chief minister told them this was not the occasion to raise slogans. After some arguments with TDP leader, Rosaiah walked out of the meeting.
Ministers Sridhar Babu and Sudershan Reddy later pacified Rosaiah, who returned to the meeting. “As long as I am the chief minister, all regions are equal for me,” he said on his return.
The veteran leader also remarked that he would continue to stay in Hyderabad.
“No matter what happens tomorrow, I will stay in Hyderabad as I can’t go back to my native place,” he said.
Srinivas Reddy clarified that he raised the slogan only to bring the issue of Telangana to the chief minister’s notice. He said his aim was not to hurt Rosaiah.
