Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir’s ruling National Conference Monday decided not to get provoked by the opposition’s strident campaign against the government, party sources ssaid.
At the receiving end of the opposition groups, particularly the Peoples’ Democratic party (PDP) on the human rights issue, the party tried to figure out the opposition’s strategy at its legislature party meeting here last Monday. The meeting was attended, among others, by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, and party president and union New and Renewable Energy Minister Farooq Abdullah.
“The opposition is frustrated and desperate and, therefore, is making mountain out of a molehill. We have decided that we will not get provoked, but rather answer issue by issue,” a party leader told IANS on the condition of anonymity.
PDP has started its offensive againt the Government by raising a high pitch on violation of human rights, terming the NC government as a failure in checking the human rights abuses.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), on the other hand, has challenged the surrender policy of the government for the militants returning from Pakistan-administered Kashmir.
The NC has also decided to field its best orators to counter the opposition onslaught, the party leader said.
