Kabul : At least seven Afghan civilians have been killed and 14 others injured in a bomb blast in southern Afghanistan on Tuesday.
Explosives were planted on a bicycle which was parked close to a bus stand in Lashkargah, capital of the southern Helmand province.
Afghan officials in the provincial capital had earlier said it was a suicide attack. However, witnesses said the blast was caused by a bomb mounted on a bicycle.
Police chief of the province Asadullah Sherzad confirmed the killing of seven people and injuries to 14 others. He said all those killed and injured were common civilians.
The police chief said the attack was the handiwork of the anti-government Taliban militants. The attack has been carried out at a time when the US, UK, and Afghan troops are conducting a massive operation against Taliban in Marja district of the Helmand province.
A day earlier, 33 civilians were killed in an air strike by the NATO troops in the neighboring province of Uruzgan.
The NATO troops apologized for the incident and said they mistook the civilians for militants.
