Manisha Pal, a Class 7 student of Astor Public School in Greater Noida’s Delta-II area, was hit by an SUV in which three students of the same school were travelling.

Said V.K. Sharma, chairman of Astor Public School: “Manisha Pal was going back home on her cycle around 2.30 p.m.”

He said that as she reached near the Omaxe Crossing round-about, the SUV driven by a 14-year-old hit her from the opposite side. The teenager, also a student of Astor, had picked up his niece studying in Class 2 and gave two other students a lift as well.

The two other students were brothers Sumit (13) and Shubham Rawal (15).

The 14-year-old took a sharp turn near Manisha and ended up hitting her, the chairman said. He then panicked and tried to reverse the vehicle, but banged into a divider instead and the car overturned and caught fire.

Some staff members of the school saw the students lying injured and rushed them to Kailash Hospital in Noida.

Said Salil Kapoor, medical superintendent of Kailash Hospital: “Manisha and Shubham have serious head injuries and are critical. They are in the ICU and will be operated upon.

Sumit had external head injuries and the teenager driving the vehicle fractured his right hand thumb.

Mrityunjay Singh, Station Officer of Surajpur police station, said: “We are looking into the issue. Action would be taken in the matter.”
