New Delhi: First time in my 32-years-old life, I walked 5 kms in pursuit of an Eid Miladu-un-Nabi procession. This was the longest procession taken out every year in Delhi to celebrate the Birthday (12th Rabi ul Awwal) of the last Prophet of Allah Hazrat Muhammad. First 2 kms to catch the procession as it had left behind a heavy traffic jam leaving no option but walk, and then next 3 kms covering it till Shahi Jama Masjid.
Several thousand human heads were crying out slogans in memory of Prophet, in love for Muhammad and groups of people at every few yards standing on stages to greet the yatris with fruits and water. Girls and women were peeking out from their homes to have a glimpse at the procession which had beautiful tableaus of Kaba, Masjid e Nabawi and Masjid e Aqsa. Processionists, most of them on foot but hundreds on trucks, lorries and bikes, were expressing their love for the Prophet by crying slogans, holding green flags and wearing armbands and headbands.
The procession, organized by Markazi Anjuman Id-e-Miladun-Nabi, began its journey from Bara Hindu Rao area and ended at Jama Masjid where local political leaders including MLA Shoaib Iqbal greeted the pilgrims.
