A team of the Attorney General’s office and the army has arrested Beatriz Villalba Betancourt of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), the country’s largest leftist guerrilla group, according to officials Saturday.

Liliana Gaviria, sister of the ex-president, was killed in a failed kidnapping attempt in April 2006. Cesar Gaviria governed the country from 1990 to 1994.

In November 2008, a judge had sentenced Villalba Betancourt in absentia to 60 years in jail on charges of extortion, homicide and rebellion.

Gaviria and one of her escorts, Jose Fernando Rengifo, were killed in Pereira city in western Colombia, when armed men tried to abduct her.

In the same case, the judge also sentenced in absentia Alexander Puerta Triana and Armando Hermosa Tovar to 60 years in prison. Another accused Edgar Canas, currently in custody, got 43 years in jail.
