Vellore: The Vellore Government Urdu Medium Muslim High School has been waiting for Urdu teachers for the last 12 years but the government authorities have turned deaf ear to the numerous presentations demanding recruitment of Urdu teachers. Now to press the demand, Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam will picket the school on 2nd February.

“The school is being run by TN Government Educational Department with total strength of 1600 students out of which 800 students are being taught in Urdu medium. The hard pressed fact is that past 12 years, the Urdu students are deprived of 10 Urdu trained teachers,” said Vellore District Secretary of TMMK J. Aejaz Ahmed.

“The queer fact is that the educational department has filled 16 vacant positions successfully within 6 years from 2003 and these teachers are falling in Tamil and English Medium categories. The odd news is that there are fifty deserving trained Urdu teachers already registered with State Employment Department and they are under waiting list,” Ahmed added.

“The Vellore Government Urdu Medium Muslim High School was founded by the local Muslim community in the year 1906 and the school has reputation in producing professionals such as IAS, IPS, eminent teachers, professors, engineers and medical professionals and several industrialists and these cadres have imparted or have been imparting valuable service to the nation. The school was the inspiration of the minority communities within the vicinity of Vellore and was erected with the sole hard earned sweat of the community people brick by brick for the exclusive interests of the minorities,” Ahmed informed.

“In order to find remedies there are regular representations from different ends including TMMK with regards to the reckless and marked defiant disregard of the educational department, underscoring the bleak consequences of the Urdu medium students. The untiring efforts of various bodies such as the Parent Teachers’ Associations, Tamil Nadu Urdu Medium Teachers’ Associations (State Level) and the Alumni of the Government Vellore Muslim High School pressing educational authorities to redress the present crisis have been so far futile,” he said.

TMMK has given an ultimatum to the concerned education authorities to hire the required Urdu teachers by 20th January. Otherwise, TMMK will hold a protest by employing picketing at the vantage points of the Vellore Government Urdu Medium Muslim High School on 2 February in the presence of State President of TMMK, Prof. Jawahirullah.
