New Delhi : The national capital will witness another foggy morning Saturday even as dense fog disrupted flight and train schedules Friday.
“Delhi will see fog tomorrow (Saturday) also. The minimum temperature is expected to hover around six degrees Celsius and the maximum is expected to remain around 19 degrees Celsius,” a India Meteorological Department (IMD) official told IANS.
The minimum temperature recorded Friday was one degree below average at 7.7 degrees Celsius and the maximum was at 17.5 degrees Celsius, four degrees below average.
Earlier in the day, flights services were disrupted at the Indira Gandhi International Airport due to fog.
“More than 15 flights were delayed by up to three hours while one Jetlite flight to Mumbai was cancelled because of the dense fog that enveloped the airport,” an airport official told IANS.
“The runway visibility was around 150 to 275 metres for both the runways in the morning and flight operations were being carried out using the CAT-III B instrument landing system,” the official said.
Train services were also disrupted in the city.
“The heavy fog cover disrupted the schedule of many trains today (Friday). Eighteen trains were rescheduled, 26 were delayed by more than three hours and 24 trains were cancelled or partially cancelled,” a Northern Railways spokesperson said.
“Partially cancelled means that the services on a part of the route were cancelled,” he added.
Dense fog reduced visibility to 200 metres, slowing down vehicular movement on the roads as well.
“At 7 a.m. the visibility level was just 200 metres because of the dense fog. However, the visibility improved as the day progressed,” the IMD official added.
A traffic police official said: “Traffic movement was slow in the morning because of the low visibility level. It was especially so near Moti Bagh and ITO.”
