Beijing : The bodies of eight Chinese police officers who died in a devastating quake in Haiti last week will be brought home on a chartered plane Tuesday, the public security ministry said.
The victims were part of a UN peacekeeping team and were at the headquarters of the UN Stabilisation Mission in Port-au-Prince, capital of Haiti, when the earthquake struck last Tuesday, Xinhua reported.
The Boeing 747 plane, carrying the bodies of the Chinese officials, took off from Port-au-Prince Sunday and is expected to arrive at the Beijing Capital International Airport Tuesday.
The aircraft earlier brought relief items like tents, water, food, emergency lights, medicines and cloths, as part of China’s humanitarian aid worth 30 million yuan (about $4 million) to Haiti. Thousands of people have died in the quake.
