Berlin, July 2, IRNA — The German government voiced concern over the ongoing humanitarian situation in Gaza despite Israel’s easing blockade on the Strip.
Talking at a regular weekly press briefing in Berlin on Friday, foreign ministry spokesperson Andreas Peschke stressed that the situation in Gaza was “anything but satisfactory.”
He reiterated it was of “major importance” to improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza, allowing greater access for the delivery of food and
humanitarian goods to Gaza.
He called for stepping up international efforts to better situation in the Strip.
“We want “more progress” on this issue,” added Peschke.
His remarks came only hours after the German parliament voted unanimously in favor of a government-backed motion which demands an immediate end to Israel’s siege on Gaza.
All factions reiterated during a parliamentary debate on Thursday evening that Israel’s siege of Gaza was counter-productive and did not serve
the security interests of the Zionist regime.
The MPs stressed that easing of Israeli blockade on Gaza was not sufficient because of the worsening humanitarian situation in the area.
The pro-Gaza initiative was unveiled by the center-right government of Chancellor Angela Merkel in the aftermath of Israel’s lethal attack on the Gaza peace flotilla.
The petition had triggered the anger of Germany’s powerful Central Council of Jews, which is de facto acting as a diplomatic representative of the Israel in Berlin.
