Mumbai : A benchmark index for Indian equities Friday closed a rather dull day of trade with a 77 point loss.
The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 17,523.47 points, ended at 17,431.01 points (provisional), 77.88 points or 0.44 percent down from its previous close at 17,509.33 points.
At the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the broader 50-share S&P CNX Nifty closed at 5,227.6 points, 0.45 percent lower than its previous close at 5,251.4 points.
Broader markets were mixed, with the BSE midcap index ending 0.2 percent higher and the BSE smallcap index 0.08 percent up.
Metals, capital goods, realty and auto stocks saw selling, with most of the 13 BSE sectoral indices in a slump.
