After seeking the army’s assistance to enforce an indefinite curfew in the state’s summer capital and other parts of the valley, authorities had cancelled all curfew passes, including those for local media persons.

For two days, no local dailies could publish editions with the managements of various newspapers here claiming their staff had been restricted from performing professional duties.

The local editors’ guild had protested the official move following which the Editors’ Guild of India also asked the state government not to prevent the media from discharging their duties.

“I have received a fresh curfew pass just now. It would now be possible for me to move out and report on the situation here,” said a journalist.
