The exhibition was inaugurated July 2 by Uma Ravi Jain, the director of the Dhoomimal Gallery. It will close July 15, said a release issued by the centre for learning.

The art works by 21 students explore contemporary realities like gender inequalities, globalisation, global warming, deforestation, changing human psychology and impending ecological disasters through figurative drawings and colourful compositions, inspired by the doyennes of modern and contemporary Indian masters of graphic and conventional canvas art.

Students have been working on the show for the last two years. The genres on display include acrylic, charcoal, oil, sculpture, digital print and silk screen.

The faculty of fine arts at the Jamia Millia Islamia ranks among the best departments of fine arts in the country with a distinguished faculty and modern syllabus.

Every year, it grooms at least half-a-dozen talented young artists who open in national galleries in the Indian metros and make a mark in advertising and commercial art.

Officials at Jamia said the “strength of the faculty was its holistic approach to arts education”. They are encouraged to think out-of-the box and develop their signature styles.

The students are taught advertising, book publishing, newspaper and magazine publishing, film and television production, theatre and travel trade.
