New Delhi: A delegation of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) visiting the Commonwealth Games projects sites Thursday claimed that sub-standard material was being used at the Yamuna Sports Complex, one of the venues for the Oct 3-14 Games.

The delegation, led by BJP Delhi unit chief Vijender Gupta, also apprehended that the construction work at the venue may not be completed on time.

Gupta said the BJP was in favour of successful conduct of the Oct 3-14 Games, but it did not want the country to face embarrassment before the representatives and sportspersons of 71 countries.

“Therefore, the party wants the government to complete the construction work in conformity with international standards,” he added.

Delhi Lieutenant Governor Tejendra Khanna had recently inspected the Yamuna complex, the false roof of which had fallen due to rains Monday, and asked officials to complete all construction activity at the site by July 31.

The Yamuna Sports Complex, work for which has been undertaken by the Delhi Development Authority, will host the archery and table tennis events.
