Kozhikode: The discrimination meted out towards certain sections by the government even though the Constitution stands for equality with no bias for religion or race is dangerous, opined Suresh Khairnar, human rights activist and founder-member of the People’s Union for Civil Liberties. He was inaugurating the public meeting organized by the Ma’dani Human Rights Committee calling for an end to the conspiracy against Abdunnasir Ma’dani.
It is sad that certain people become criminals just because they have Muslim names while those who killed men in the name of communalism are roaming around, said Mr Khairnar. The mouthpiece of the Sanathan Sanstha and the ‘Saamna’ of Bal Thackeray are spreading the venom of communalism. Praveen Thogadia, Pramod Muthalik and Narendra Modi also come under the same list. The government, the police and the legal system are not able to take action against them. The media also are trying to foment communalism and to spread rumours. The authorities are hesitating to take action even after it is known that Hindutva forces are involved in the blasts in the Mecca Masjid and Samjhautha Express etc. Those with Muslim names have to undergo long examinations in airports in many countries. Several bad incidents are happening in our country too. His Muslim name is the reason for Ma’dani to be haunted always, he added.
The move against Ma’dani is a problem not only of Muslims but of the whole society, said Neelalohithadasan Nadar, BSP leader and former state minister. If political parties follow the policy that ‘let law decide the case of Ma’dani’, people will decide their case in the coming days, said MI Abdul Azeez, Jamat e Islami assistant Amir. Democratic forces and human rights organizations should fight in the Gandhian way against the injustice meted out in the case of Ma’dani and others, said O Abdurahman, editor of ‘Madhyamam’ daily.
A Vasu presided over the programme in which Laha Gopalan, Prof TB Vijayakumar, O Abdulla, NP Chekkutty, CK Abdul Azeez, KC Varghese, TA Pauran, EP Ashraf Baqawi, PI Noushad, AP Abdul Wahab, Gafoor Puthuppadi and Ramesh Nanmanda spoke.
