Kolkata: State committee members of West Bengal’s ruling Left Front major Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) Sunday called upon Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee to be more firm and attacking in his approach, party sources said.
“You need to be more firm and attacking. The entire Left Front is looking to you,” some state committee leaders told the chief minister.
They said with the crucial state assembly polls less than a year away, Bhattacharjee has to provide strong leadership. “We are with you,” the leaders said.
The two-day meeting of the state committee ended Sunday.
The Left Front conceded ground to the Trinamool Congress-led opposition in the 2008 civic polls, last year’s Lok Sabha elections and this year’s civic polls. Political observers have been expressing scepticism about its ability to retain power next year.
The Front has been in power in the state without a break since 1977.
