Chennai : Two AIADMK candidates – P.H. Manoj Pandian and K.V. Ramalingam – filed their nominations Friday in the presence of party chief J. Jayalalithaa for the June 17 Rajya Sabha elections.
The AIADMK is hoping to win two of the six seats with the support of its allies, the MDMK, the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) and the Communist Party of India (CPI).
Meanwhile, the Congress Friday announced the name of Sudarshan Nachiappan as its candidate. He will file his nomination Monday.
The three DMK candidates – K.P. Ramalingam, T.M. Selvaganapathy and Sankarankoil Thangavel – filed their nominations Wednesday.
As per the party positions in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, the DMK-Congress combine is expected to win four Rajya Sabha seats and AIADMK the remaining two.
The party-wise position in the 234-member Tamil Nadu assembly is DMK (99), AIADMK (57), Congress (36), PMK (18), CPI-M (9), CPI (6), MDMK (3), VCK (2) and DMDK (1). There is one Independent member, one unattached and one nominated besides the speaker.
