New Delhi : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Monday accused union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar of committing “serious impropriety” and asked him to “categorically explain” his involvement in the Indian Premier League (IPL) bidding.
“Why do you (Sharad Pawar) give explanation only when the media exposes you… You should explain details categorically. You ought to have been transparent,” BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad told reporters here.
“Mr Sharad Pawar has committed serious impropriety in not telling the nation the truth,” Prasad said.
Pawar, former president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, and his daughter Supriya Sule, a Lok Sabha member, are fighting off allegations that they were involved in the controversial second round of IPL bidding following a failed bid by City Corporation, a Pune-based construction company in which they have 16 percent stakes.
“IPL Pune bidding stories come out every day with a new twist… We demand an inquiry into the company affairs of City Corporation. IT (Income Tax) and ED (Enforcement Directorate) should investigate. We are asking the prime minister again to take strong action,” he added.
