Chennai : Continuing to maintain silence on aligning with the DMK for the 2011 assembly polls in Tamil Nadu, PMK leader S.Ramadoss Tuesday, however, came to the support of a party colleague criticised by DMK chief M.Karunanidhi.
“Guru is not a stumbling block for a PMK-DMK alliance. He is a very good person,” Ramadoss told reporters when asked to respond to Karunanidhi’s comments about Guru, a PMK leader who castigated the DMK for denying it a Rajya Sabha seat. Guru said the DMK had “stabbed” the PMK in the back.
Karunanidhi, when asked by reporters about Guru’s comment, said: “In Indian puranas, Guru means Shukracharya who prevented good things from happening. That is the only explanation for Guru.”
Meanwhile, asked about the party’s stand on aligning with DMK, Ramadoss said the party will continue its discussion on the proposed alliance.
He said the issue of alliance did not figure in the party meeting held here Tuesday.
The ruling DMK May 30 decided to ally with the PMK but expressed inability to offer it a Rajya Sabha seat this time, dashing hopes of PMK leader and former union health minister Anbumani Ramadoss’s re-election.
The DMK’s high-level action committee decided to offer a Rajya Sabha seat to the PMK only after 2011 assembly elections.
Subsequently leaders of PMK met Karunanidhi and said that Ramadoss would decide on the aligning with DMK.
