Dr. Iqbal Sabir, a senior lecturer in the History Department of AMU, is survived by his wife and two minor children. He was 54 and a diabetic patient.

Dr. Sabir was travelling to Mumbai from Aligarh by Mangla Express which he had boarded at Mathura. He was accompanied by his elder sister Ms Asmat Bano and was on his way to meet his wife and children in Mumbai.

After performing post mortem on the body of Dr. Sabir at the local Gandhi Medical College his mortal remains were taken back to Aligarh by road on Sunday afternoon by his relatives who had rushed to Bhopal after hearing the news.

Meanwhile, Dr. Sabir’s wife and children have reached Aligarh by air via Delhi after hearing the demise of their bread-winner. He will be laid to rest on Monday morning.

According to Ms Asmat Bano, Dr. Sabir complained of some uneasiness near Bina station and went to sleep with instructions to wake him up at Bhopal railway station. However, when he was woken up on reaching Bhopal station he did not respond. His weeping sister raised an alarm and the co-passengers informed the police. The GRP rushed to the railway compartment and found Dr. Sabir was motionless and dead.

The police disembarked Ms Bano along with the body of Dr. Sabir along the Bhopal railway station. The body was sent to local Gandhi Medical College mortuary while the sister was taken home by some distant relatives here. ([email protected])
