Krishna Iyer stated that he was not a supporter of Ma’dani but made it clear that it was not right to book him in cases just because he was a famous Muslim. Ma’dani was released on want of evidence after he spent nine years in jail. The government is responsible for this. The opponents of CPI (M) general secretary Pinarayi Vijayan turned against Ma’dani when both shared stage in a programme. He also mentioned certain people considering Ma’dani as guilty even without any evidence.

In another development, the state leaders of the PDP yesterday submitted a petition before the Minister of State for Home Affairs Mullappally Ramachandran requesting an emergency intervention in the hunt against Ma’dani. PDP working chairman Poonthura Siraj gave the petition and said that the minister had promised to go through it and take the necessary measures.

Meanwhile, PDP general secretary Gafoor Puthuppadi said that the state government should not fall into the trap of the IB and Karnataka BJP government against Ma’dani. He expressed his hope that the state government led by the CPI (M) would not jump into any action in the matter. The centre should enquire the circumstances that prompted the Karnataka government to take such a decision (against Ma’dani) if the central government and the IB have no special interest in the case. He added that any police action against Ma’dani would be dealt with according to the circumstances.

In another development, the state committee meeting of the Popular Front of India opined that the moves against Ma’dani revealed the cruel face of government bias. The government has not taken any serious measures against Pramod Muthalik, Narendra Modi, Bal Thackeray and Praveen Togadia. Muslims were arrested initially in almost all of the bomb blasts in the country but later the role of Sangh Parivar organizations in many of these blasts was found out. No free and fair probe has been conducted on the matter. Biased measures against Muslims are taking place in such circumstances. The present efforts are to put him into prison again based on the words of an accused in police custody. Ma’dani is the victim of the Muslim hunt carried out by the RSS influencing the BJP government in Karnataka since the organisation is puzzled by the disclosure of the Hindutva links in bomb blasts. The PFI expressed solidarity with all the struggles for ensuring justice for Ma’dani. It also congratulated the timely intervention of human rights activists in the matter.

The Dakshin Kerala Jamiyathul Ulema condemned the efforts to put Ma’dani behind bars again. It accused that the moves were a part of a big conspiracy.
