Interpol chief welcomes ECOPOL formation

Tehran : The chief of the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) welcomed Tuesday establishment of a regional criminal police organization for ECO member states.

Speaking on the sidelines of the 1st Meeting of the Heads of Interpol of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Member States here, Interpol Secretary General Roland K. Noble said he was optimistic about formation of ECOPOL as it would effectively help promote regional security.

Noble said that INTERPOL has shared its information with Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan about international criminals in order to facilitate their arrest.

He added that the trend of transfer of chemical materials used for producing heroin in Afghanistan was another major case which could jointly be followed up by the INTERPOL and its counterparts in Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The 1st Meeting of the Heads of Interpol of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Member States will be held in the Iranian capital for two days.
