Patna: The BJP-JD(U) combine government in Bihar has made a big cut in the annual grant-in-aid for Urdu Akademy in the state budget for 2010-2011 fiscal year. The Urdu Academy that runs under the state Minority Welfare Department will get only Rs 34,76,000 against Rs 99,40,000 that it got in 2009-10 fiscal year.
The state government, however, has not made any cut in the grant-in-aid for Anjuman Taraqqi e Urdu. The Anjuman will get Rs 8,00,000 in the new fiscal year like the last one.
Urdu is second official language in the state, and Urdu Academy and Anjuman Taraqqi e Urdu are two chief institutions that care for the language in the state.
