According to an official from Trombay Police Station, the woman has been identified as Titas Pal, 27, from Kolkata. Police found her hanging at her quarters in the BARC Colony in Trombay, a northeast Mumbai suburb, Wednesday evening.

Suicide is suspected and her body was sent to the Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar Thursday for an autopsy. Her relatives have been informed and are expected here later Thursday.

The deceased had returned from Kolkata a few days ago. The motive behind the suspected suicide is not known.

This is the second such case involving a BARC scientist in the past 10 days. On Feb 22, Mahadevan Iyer, 47, was found dead in his house at the Anand Bhawan, BARC staff quarters in south Mumbai.

Earlier, police believed it to be a case of suicide as Iyer lived alone but it was registered as a murder case after the autopsy report was received.
