Kolkata: The West Bengal government Thursday decided to raise a special security force to protect industrial units spanning across the state, Home Secretary Ardhendu Sen said.
“The force – one battalion for Kolkata and another for rest of West Bengal – will look after the security of industrialists and industrial units across the state,” Sen told reporters here.
He said the proposal had been forwarded to the finance department for approval.
The announcement came a week after three city-based industrialists allegedly received telephone calls from undisclosed destinations demanding hefty ransom.
Earlier, Sen said the government had instructed all three industrialists to “restrict” their movements. Their security has also been tightened.
