Azamgarh: Rashtriya Ulema Council has strongly condemned the arrest of famous Muslim cleric and president of the Ittehad-e-Millat Council, Maulana Tauquir Raza Khan by Bareilly police on Monday for his alleged role in the last week’s communal violence in the UP district. The Police have accused Maulana of delivering inflammatory speech that led to communal tension in the district around Eid Miladun Nabi celebrations.
Rashtriya Ulema Council chief Maulana Amir Rashadi termed the arrest illegal and blamed state government for working as puppet of communal forces like RSS and Bajrang Dal.
“Arrest of Maulana Tauquir Raza Khan was done under pressure of Sangh Privar while real culprits are roaming freely. Muslims were beaten up, their houses and shops were set on fire and now they are put behind the bar” said Maulana Rashadi.
Maulana Rashadi has demanded government immediate release of Maulana Tauquir Raza Khan and also to provide proper compensation to the innocent affected families.
He warned the government that if demands will not be fulfilled, Ulema Council would come out on the road to protest against the injustice.
He also appealed to secular citizens of Bareilly to maintain peace and communal harmony and to defeat violent people.
