Islamabad : Five people were killed and five others were wounded in a grenade and firing attack on an NGO office in the northern district of Mansehra, said police on Wednesday.
Unknown assailants bombed and opened fire at the office of World Vision Agency (WVA) in Augi area of the district, said local senior police officer Sajid Khan to reporters.
The attack destroyed the office building, and Khan said that police had launched an operation to arrest the assailants.
Earlier, police sources had told KUNA that four masked gunmen riding motorbikes opened indiscriminate fire at an NGO office in Mansehra.
Federal Interior Minister, Rehman Malik, has strongly condemned the blast and ordered an immediate inquiry into the incident.
This is one of the worst attacks on an NGO office in Mansehra district.
After the district was hit by a giant earthquake in 2005, several local and foreign NGOs have been active in Mansehra. Local extremists have been threatening foreign NGOs, warning them to leave or else face dire consequences.
