Mumbai : The Maharashtra government has embarked on a massive mission to modernise its police force by providing it latest equipment, advanced weapons and armoured vehicles to effectively deal with the scourge of terrorism besides creating additional 55,000 posts in the force, Governor K. Sankaranarayanan said here Thursday.
“A comprehensive package is being rigorously implemented for this purpose and will definitely enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the police,” the governor said addressing a joint session of the state legislature.
The state government has created a separate police range at Aheri in Gadchiroli and added 2,355 new posts at different levels to tackle the growing menace of Maoists in eastern Maharashtra.
“We have also announced financial incentives for persons supporting the state administration and the police, besides a comprehensive development package for the entire district,” he added.
Sankaranarayanan also paid homage to the victims of the terror blast at Pune’s German Bakery Feb 13.
