Gandhinagar: Students of a local engineering college near Ahmedabad are on a warpath, demanding immediate shifting of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Gandhinagar, from their college premises.
The students of Vishwakarma Engineering College are demanding that the IIT-Gandhinagar’s temporary campus be shifted out from their college premises, where it has been functioning the past one year, before the second batch comes in July.
IIT officials have expressed serious concern over the turn of events.
“We are not under the Gujarat government but under the direct purview of the union human resource development ministry. If our students are threatened, we will be forced to take up the matter with the centre,” an official said on condition of anonymity.
Meanwhile, the Gujarat government has identified a 385-acre plot of land near the state capital to build the campus for the IIT-Gandhinagar.
According to state Revenue Minister Anandiben Patel, the plot has been shown to the expert panel set up for selecting land for the institute.
