New Delhi: Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh Wednesday termed as “baseless” the criticism of his ministry by fellow ministers for delaying environment clearance to various infrastructure projects.
“The criticism of environment ministry is baseless and the situation is not as alarming as it is made out to be by the media and by a section of the government,” Ramesh told reporters here.
Ramesh has been facing criticism from various ministers for delaying environment clearance of development projects and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh last week called a meeting to sort out the matter.
“I have suggested that environment ministry should have a say while allocating development projects in environment sensitive areas,” Ramesh said.
