“There is no question of shielding. These are allegations. Many of them have been discussed in parliament. They have been revived… But certainly there is nothing in the realm of proof or credible evidence,” Congress spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi said here.

Singhvi said the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government had shown “exemplary rectitude and exemplary standards of conduct”.

Pointing out that Raja does not belong to the Congress party, he said there was no question of defending somebody who was not an accused.

“At the one level I am talking of a charge sheeted person, CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) enquiry and criminal court cases. At the other end you are bringing in parliamentary discussions, where people are making allegations. I think you must, in a sense of balance, keep that differentiation,” he said.

The two houses of parliament saw repeated adjournments Monday over demands from opposition that Raja should be removed from the cabinet by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in the wake of allegations of wrongdoing in the 2G spectrum allocation.
