Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said the MSTC Ltd, a regulatory authority for export of ferrous scrap, has agreed to provide services to the state government departments and also assured to strive hard in getting the best prices for the scrap material through e-auction.

“The new mechanism will help in disposal of scrap in a systematic, fast and transparent manner,” Dikshit added.

Dikshit said various departments under the state government were facing difficulties in disposal of their scrap materials.

Earlier, the scrap materials would occupy space in offices and also disposal by the departments individually was not fetching a good price.

The cabinet’s decision comes in the wake of radiation leak from a scrap market in Mayapuri area of west Delhi. The source of the leak was a radioactive Gamma Cell containing Cobalt-60 that was auctioned as scrap by Delhi University’s chemistry department over two months ago.

At a meeting presided over by Dikshit, the cabinet also took a decision to recommend the prorogation of budget session of the 4th legislative assembly.

The budget session of the assembly commenced March 15 and was adjourned sine die on April 1.
