DHBVN managing director Sudhir Rajpal said Tuesday that the new concept will give a big relief to the consumers, and minimise the complaints of wrong billing, distribution of bills and standing in queues to deposit the bill amount.

He said that nearly half of the town, 300 km from state capital Chandigarh. was already covered under the plan and the remainder half will be covered by May 15.

Under the new scheme, metre readers would now generate energy bills on the spot in presence of the consumer.

For this purpose, the DHBVN has purchased electronic machines along with printers in which the meter reader will feed the reading of meter on the spot. The previous reading will already be available in the machine through a programmed software.

The machine will generate the electricity bill on the spot and it will be handed over to the consumer at the same time. The consumer can make payment against this bill by cheque to the metre reader.

The work of metre reading, bill distribution and cash collection is being done by members of Haryana Ex-Services League (HESL), comprising ex-servicemen, in south Haryana, the area of DHBVN.

Rajpal said that the introduction of spot billing system would further satisfy the consumers and will bring about transparency in service.

Spot billing has already been started in Gurgaon and it is being started in selected areas of Faridabad city, adjoining Delhi, also.
