New Delhi : Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi will be a “very appropriate addition” to the cabinet, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said Monday, adding he will be “very happy to make place for anybody”.
“Rahul is very qualified to hold a cabinet post,” the prime minister said at a press conference, saying he had discussed the matter with him on a number of occasions.
Gandhi was, however, reluctant to give a positive answer, Manmohan Singh said. “He is doing a good job… he has duties to perform in reviving the Congress party.”
According to Manmohan Singh, Gandhi would a “very appropriate addition” to the cabinet “as and when he is ready”.
“Well, I sometimes feel that young people should take over (as prime minister)… I would be very happy to make place for anybody,” he said.
