Srinagar: Congress President Sonia Gandhi has cancelled her proposed visit to Srinagar but she will visit the winter capital Jammu.
No reasons were given for the sudden change in Gandhi’s programme.
However, official sources said that Gandhi will visit Jammu May 29.
In Jammu, she is scheduled to inaugurate a tribal cultural centre of the Gujjar community and also address a rally.
She will be accompanied by Prithviraj Chavan, minister of state in the Prime Minister’s office and union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad.
A top official source told Agence India Press that, her Srinagar visit has been postponed and not completely called off. The new date, will be disclose very soon, he said
According to sources, Sonia will meet the party leaders in Jammu and hear them out on the organizational matters and overall situation of the state.
She might visit Srinagar in June or July, and she will lay the foundation stone of a colony for dwellers of Dal Lake, whose land would be taken out of the waters of the lake, that time, he said.
Hurriyat Conference led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani Wednesday called for complete shutdown on May 29 to protest the visit of Sonia Gandhi to valley. However Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani told Agence India press that there will be no change in Hurriyat
