Mercury slips with fresh snow, rains in Himachal

Shimla : Fresh snow in higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh and rains in mid hills Friday brought the temperatures down by several notches in the state, the weather office said.

“The high-altitude areas of Lahaul and Spiti, Kinnaur and Kullu saw mild spell of snow early this (Friday) morning whereas the mid hills saw moderate rain,” Manmohan Singh, director of the Meteorological Office here, told IANS.

Keylong, the district headquarters of Lahaul and Spiti, saw 5 cm of snowfall.

Singh said after fresh snow and rains, the maximum temperatures have come down in the state.

Shimla, popularly known as Queen of Hills, saw a high of 28.1 degrees against Thursday’s high of 32.4 degrees Celsius. Shimla Thursday recorded the highest temperature in the past six years.

Sundernagar in Mandi district recorded a maximum of 36.7 degrees, Dharamsala in Kangra district saw 35.6 degrees and Una town marked a high of 37.2 degrees Celsius. These towns Thursday saw the maximum temperatures at 41.3 degrees, 38.2 degrees and 44.8 degrees Celsius respectively.

The Met department has forecast mainly dry weather in the state for Saturday.
