Mumbai: A delegation of the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiv Sena in Maharashtra Monday urged Governor K. Sankaranarayanan to sack the government headed by Chief Minister Ashok Chavan over corruption allegations.
The 12-member delegation led by Leader of Opposition Eknath Khadse alleged that the ministers and officials in the ruling Democratic Front government were involved in corruption and scandals and, therefore, the government should be sacked immediately.
Khadse apprised the governor of the alleged scams pertaining to the Adarsh Cooperative Housing Society in Mumbai, the private Lavasa Lake city in the Konkan, the Ramoshi Watan land in Pune among others.
The team also urged Sankaranarayanan that action should be initiated against the bureaucrats involved in the alleged scams.
The delegation comprised of BJP leaders Sudhir Mungantiwar, Pandurang Phundkar, Vinod Tawade and Sardar Tara Singh besides the Shiv Sena’s Subhash Desai, Diwakar Rawte, Vinod Ghosalkar and Ravindra Waikar.
United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi has constituted a two-member Congress party team of Defence Minister A.K. Antony and Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee to go into the Adarsh housing society controversy.
The panel will find out how were the flats in the 32-storeyed building in south Mumbai, originally meant for families of soldiers killed in the 1999 Kargil conflict with Pakistan, were allotted to politicians, bureaucrats and military officials.
A delegation of the Samajwadi Party led by its state president Abu Asim Azmi and other Dalit and Republican parties is scheduled to call on the governor later Monday, seeking the dismissal of the Chavan government and registration of criminal cases against ministers and bureaucrats involved in the housing society scam.
